Athena
On a breezy September day, Athena found me.  Coincidentally,
I was jogging for my Lifefit class outside near the football
field.  Numerous college students breezed past the sorry
looking dog with no more than a glance in her direction, but I
could tell that she was crying out for help.  While her gentle
and kind eyes glimmered with hope, her thin and almost
hairless body showed the devastating effects of mange.  She
waited patiently as she was time and time again ignored, until
I stopped and gave her my full attention.  Luckily my professor
happened to be an animal lover, also, and I was allowed to
take Athena to the Humane Society of Putnam County.
Although they were filled to capacity, upon seeing Athena, the
director decided to accept her.  It was a long recovery, but by
the end of October Athena had put on weight, and her coat
was almost all filled out with the shine of a healthy dog.  By
then she had become a shelter favorite.  She went trick-or-
treating with me, two friends, and several other dogs from the
HSPC.  Proudly marching around the square in Greencastle
dressed in costume, she showered children with affection.
She patiently sat while children crowded around to pet her,
and dozens of people commented about her calm and sweet
nature.  A month later, Athena was still not adopted.  She still
waited patiently.  She was thoroughly enjoying her time up
front in the office greeting visitors!  Since Athena was fully
recovered from the mange, a rescue in Wisconsin agreed to
take her to put in a foster home.  Since I live in Wisconsin, I
took Athena with me when I drove home one weekend.
Christmas songs filled the radio, and before we knew it, it
was time to drop her off.  The foster coordinator met me, and I
could tell that this wonderful, loving dog would be in good
hands.  A few days later, I heard that Athena’s foster home
had adopted her.  There was not a doubt in my mind that as
soon as this kind, gentle dog was given a home, it would be a
home for life.

Mohammed and Ali
My goodness what friendly cats!! I got home from
work and my husband warned me I'd probably get
hit with a catnip mouse when I walked in.
Mohammed met me at the door and started
cuddling. You can tell Ali doesn't feel quite right
yet, as she is a little more reserved. They
have separation anxiety, anytime one of us is in
another room, they have to come check on us.
Thanks for all your help in getting us the perfect fit
to our home!!(They even sit at the sliding door and
wait on my husband to come back in from
smoking on our patio!!!)
