Emma
Last winter, Emma was left at our shelter gates on an extremely cold
day. She was in pain and extremely underweight. Fortunately, she was
found by one of our volunteers, who immediately took her to a local vet,
who performed a C-Section due to a complicated pregnancy. All of her
puppies were still-born, but Emma pulled through. She went home to a
foster family to get the care she needed and deserved. She was sweet
and gentle, but had the longest, saddest face. She continued to heal
and hoped for a home and family of her own. Her forever-family fell in
love with her picture when they saw her online.
Her new family reports that she’s filled out, with no more ribs or
backbone showing. She’s now completely house-broken, and LOVES
her new sisters, especially Jesse (the other beagle). She’s
comfortable enough in her new home that she’s allowed to run on their
200 acres with Jessie, where she loves to chase anything that moves.
Her favorite places to sleep include her adoptive mom and dad’s bed at
night, and dad’s recliner during the day.
Vicki, Emma’s adoptive mom says: ”She is just the sweetest little
thing. Just melts in my arms when I pick her up. At Christmas she was
scared when we had company but now knows that she is safe. She is
just such an humble little thing. Don't know how anyone could have
neglected and dumped her. She is happy now and very, very loved!”
Humane Society of Putnam County
FROM PUTNAM COUNTY TO DENVER, COLORADO
Remi was a stray brought into our shelter last March.
seemed to be second choice for potential adopters.
This fall, a DePauw student who had volunteered at
the shelter last year discovered that, to her surprise,
Remi was still with us. During DePauw Parents'
Weekend, the whole family met Remi and
arrangements were made for her eventual trip to
their home in Denver, Colorado.
We recently received the following update (Remi is
now named Polly):
I went home for Thanksgiving and got to see the lovely
Polly at home with the herd of hounds! I think she
remembered me, because when she saw me, she
went nuts. She has adjusted to living in Denver and is
getting better every day. She sleeps in her pink
princess bed every night. She gets a walk in the
morning and in the evening. She is getting along well
with the other dogs. She has only had a few accidents,
but she knows how to use the dog door now. There are
still some city things that she is trying to adjust to, for
example when she goes on her walk very early in the
morning (5AM) we can sometimes hear the lions
roaring at the zoo that is 1.5 miles away. She was
terrified at first, but she is getting used to that. Her tail
never stops and she is a very happy girl. It is hard to
get a picture of her because she doesn't stop moving.
She got a clean check up from the vet except for a little
fungus on her feet which was cured with antibiotics.
She had such great care and love at the Humane
Society and it shows. We are so happy to have her, she
is a GREAT addition to the family. I can't wait to see her
again when I go home. I tried to attach some pictures
of the hounds in our household, but I don't know if they
worked. Thank you so much for everything, and Polly
says hi from Denver!
